Transmission fluid small leak

My 1999 2wd drive xj has a small transmission leak where the drive shaft meets the rear of the transmission. Any help?

You will notice a small amount of ATF pooling<br/>

Looks like your tailshaft seal is shot. Pull the driveshaft, remove the seal. Drive the new seal in using a large socket or seal driver. Lube the seal before you put the driveshaft back in. I thought i read somewhere there is a brass bushing back there that can also leak, but cant remember what year the guy was working on, but it was a 2wd. I think he needed a press for the bushing. The seal was easy. Sorry, i dont have part numbers.

Thanks for the reply. I ordered a new transmission output shaft seal as they call it. I am going to take your suggestion and replace it when it arrives. Fortunately the leak is slow enough to keep topping off till seal arrives. I'll post results after repair. Also, the part was rather difficult to find. So here is the part number for anyone looking. Part# 83504048

FIXED. in the 2wd the seal is just called a transmission seal part# 83504048. Autonzone and similar stores will say they have the part, even by part number. They do not and what they give you will be wrong. You have to by online or dealer.

Here's what I did

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...4c59c9a36d.jpg

Disconnect drive shaft from rear, push it forward, and remove it. Set somewhere safe

Pull shaft from trans. By hand

Spend the 20$ and buy a seal puller to remove trans. Seal

I used a piece of 1.5 inch pvc. Work slow and be patient or you will rip the seal. Take your time. Seriously.
