Default Transmission Fluid in oil?

I have a 89 XJ with 293500kms in it and there is what i am assuming a lifter tick it is definetly coming from the top end. It is really starting to annoy the #@$! out of me, one guy told me to do an oil change and put a litre of trans fluid in with the oil and run it for a bit then dump and fill it up with regular oil. Was wondering if this was true, and if anybody has tried it before i try it and it screws something up.

Thumbs up

Not sure about trans fluid in the oil but before you do that you may want to try a higher viscosity oil and if you add anything try some lucas ive had good luck with that in the past on other vehicles

I've done it. In my Neon, my old Caravan, and both my ZJ and XJ. Drain a a quart or two of oil, replace it with plain ATF. Let the engine come up to temp, drive it easily around the block a time or two, then let it sit and idle for about 10-15 minutes. Drain it all out, change the filter, put in new oil. Didn't stop the lifter tick in my Caravan, because one lifter had a broken spring and was collapsed all the time. But it helped with my 160,000 mile ZJ, and my 210,000 mile XJ...

Your results may vary, some settling may occur during shipment, specifications subject to change without notice...

I have used a quart of diesel fuel mixed in with the oil and I had good results. When you do this don't drive any more than just around the block or a very short trip. The deisel or ATF is acting like a cleaning agent and getting the sludge out of the lubricating system.
Once you get it up to temp and have circulated it a little while drain and refill with a new filter. You should hear and feel a bit of an improvement in your Jeep.
