Transfer case linkage problem

hi i own a 1988 jeep xj lifted 4.5" with 33x12.5 mickey thompson mtz with a NP231 t-case and i seem to have a issue with keeping it in 4lo. it will go into 4lo but once i put it in gear and let the clutch out the t-case pops out and makes a grind noise. I had a friend sit under my vehicle and shift the tcase into 4lo and i would lightly tap the linkage and it would pop. just curious if there is any tightments or adjustments that could be made to my linkage? or If i need a new one? or is it a bearing or something inside my transfer case? Im new to this site, but glad i found it because so far it has been very useful. any help is appreciated!!

respectfully,
Dave :thumbup1:

I bet you linkage is bent. novak makes a great replacement for the linkage. even makes the shifts so much more smoother

yeah it looked as if one of the arms was bent, It sits in there really loose too like i can wiggle it back and fourth about 3/4". ill take a picture of it today and maybe that could help point me in the right direction.

thanks man!
