Default i have 1"

I have a 3.5" lift and a 1" TC drop. No vibes, but every one's is a lil different. I've heard of some people doing 4.5 without any TC drop and been fine. My lift is from the PO - FWIW, I'd probably have done a SYE instead, to keep better belly clearance, etc. Heck, I should just say "when I have the cash to re-do it right and get real leafpacks I'll just do a SYE..." hehe

You may drop the transfer case for purpose other than vibrations. The objective is to keep the tcase output and the rear dif input Parallel. Not necessary to have them point direct at each other, just parallel to each other. With lift you may want to drop the Tcase to assist maintaining engagement of your driveshaft in the slip yoke. Your shaft aint stretchin. You can also adjust the angle with wedge at the rear axle to spring mount. Slip yoke eliminator is probably in the future of every lift project. Not always applied with the 1st stages of gettin the XJ up in the clouds. For some good reference check out site at Gojeep.com, a real good write up for XJ lift applciations and resolutions of the resultant side effects.

The drop more or less just tilts the whole transmission and case down to decrease drive line angle

The Tcase drop is often a rectangular tube spacer, of a stack of washers on each bolt between the crossmember of the tail of the transmission mount and the frame rails. By spacing the cross member down the tail of the trans and transfer case are lowered. Note this also tilts the front of the engine. Prior to refiring the engine please check for fan clearance to the radiator. Have seen a good rad wasted but that was a 2.5" drop, that was too much anyways. 1 inch drop is plenty. Still always check for fan clearance.
