Default Transfer Case/4wd Handle Rattle?

Hi, I am pretty new here and just got a 2000 jeep cherokee sport and am trying to figure out a noise I am hearing. Especially when making turns, it sounds like either the transfer case or even the 4wd handle is making a rattle type of sound. I can feel the rattle in the 4wd lever and sometimes either press down on it hard or pull it up to adjust it and the rattling or spinning sound would stop or not happen as frequently. Any ideas?

Could be your transfer case chain linkage. Sometimes those chains get worn out.

take a look at this: http://forums.off-road.com/jeep-mid-...e-linkage.html

My 2000 has been doing this since I bought it with 6000 miles on it. If I push down or pull up on the 4wd lever it stops. It's much more noticable at idle with the AC compressor running.

It doesn't seem to affect anything. Shift's in and out fine.

on the driver side of the transmission, the linkage will come through the floorboard.. there are 2 screws that hold the pivot point in place.. check them..

also, I am sure there are plastic bushings that might have popped out..
a visual inspection, tightening and lubrication would be my first place to go.. then think about the stuff that is harder to get to.

good luck,
