Can't find any info except every one saying it should be a 231 case?

That looks like a 3 to me.

It should be 231 j,The 3 does look like a 5 kinda and your not the only one that it stamped like that.Your xj is around a 96 right ?

That is definitely a 231, but I can see how people might think that 3 looks like a 5.
