Trans slipping

Have a 98 XJ sport 2wd, For some reason under hard braking once i get to a stop if i accelerate it revs then slams into gear... If i am carefull and gradually accelerate sometimes it will catch in a low RPM. Now it doesnt always do this. What would it be?

Welcome to the forum! :)

What color is your trans fluid? Hows the level? When was the last time you checked it?

If it's very dark, see my sig, #3.

how long ago since an ATF change?...FSM says 2yrs or 30k miles

I am quite religuous on trans fluid change, and cannot for the life of me understand why peeps want to ignore it
