Could not remove tranny pan.
Gave up, and put all the bolts back.
This car is hilarious to work on.
Taking it to a pro.
Just need to find a shop that doesn't just toss my solenoids in the garbage,
clear the codes, and charges me $500 for doing nothing.

Finally got the ***** to attempt this today.
Detached the dipstick bolt.
Drained fluid.
Removed all pan bolts.
Pan did not budge.
Put the bolts back, and will let a pro handle it.

Will never work on a car older than 10 years old ever again in my life.

I'm coming around. I have seen many suggest that he's a troll, and I'm beginning to agree.

The most basic stuff on normal cars becomes major surgery. Even dropping a tranny pan is a total nightmare with the XJ.
Cutting dipstick tubes with pipe cutters, unbolting buried dipstick tube bolt with impact guns, welded on pans, etc. LOL!
Professionals only! Working on Japanese and German cars is child's play compared to American cars.
I can't wait to see how the professional tries to deal with this, thank god for book hours!

I did the ebay solenoid kit. It took me a while to work up the courage to try it. It is pretty easy. The hard part is getting the tranny pan off and then back on working around the exhaust pipe.

Electronics are the easiest part of car repair, hands down.
Remove sensor, replace sensor. Light bulb changing complexity.

Statements like this are why nobody takes you seriously. If you think that's all there is to modern automotive mechanics, you're dead wrong.
But, same old Bimmer...every time you decide to log in and post, you follow a pattern. Every damn time. For the long time users here, tell me I'm wrong, haha

Over on NAXJA do a search for solenoid replacement in the forum and a series of photos from a guy that did it should come up. It helped me a lot when I did mine.
