A common problem with xjs is the tps, when they start to go bad they will cause trany shifting problems, when you turn it off and back on you are resetting the pcm.

is there a way to get a new pcm or do i need a new tranny and how hard is it to do a manual swap

I am refering to the tps on the throttle body not the pcm or trany,I would look into it first.

im workin on it in auto right now as we speak but if i get one from a junk yard isnt that one going to have a chance of going bad as soon as i get it? new ones are like 40 bucks

Anything can go bad,but $40 is cheap, you can get one at the jy for about $15-20,I would just get the new one.
I get alot of stuff from the jy,and it works great, being from a jy does not mean it is bad.
Alot of times pepole will have a problem with something and replace alot of parts and never find the problem and take it to the jy,and latley the clunkers program has put alot of good xjs in the jy.
