hello all, this is the 1st time using this so here it goes. I have a jeep cherokee sport 1999 and broke the transfer case case (just the back side) i have all the bolts off and I am pretty sure i have all the linkages all off but i still can not get the case off to change it out with a nonbroken case. any help would be greatly appreciated. it is a 242j transfer case.

 

If you are talking about the rear part between the tail shaft and the transfer case (the part with the spedo gear in it)....... It has to come off straight.Pry slightly on bottom, then top,then back to bottom, etc. A few whacks with a rubber mallet should loosen it enough to get it started. I just had to have mine welded (holding up fine), Drive shaft came out of rear end yolk and broke the housing while it was flailing around. Good luck.

 

Only 6 bolts hold it on if they are all out tap it with a rubber hammer and wiggle it loose.
