Tps help
So I have a 93 Cherokee sport it was having proublems with dying while it was driving so I had replaced the crankshaft position sensor and it stopped dying but started to putter at like 45+mph so I had it diagnosted and it saiid that my tps was out so I replaced that and it was still puttering? I was told that it could be because I didn't zero the tps with a multimeter could this be wat I'm experiencing?

i dont know anything about calibrating with a multimeter...when i install them, after install i
1. turn key on 2. slowly depress the throttle to the floor board (3) times 3. turn key off, wait a few seconds 4. key on again and (1) time to the floor 5. key off, wait a few 6. start it up Some might say its not neccesary but i have done it with every car/truck i have worked on and never any problems |
you need to get a multimeter and check to make sure the WOT voltage and the closed voltage is within the specs. that is the correct way to calibrate your tps

There is no actual "adjustment" of the throttle position sensor from 1991-2001.
However, "testing" of it can absolutely be performed. If the sputtering was happening both before and after the new TPS was installed, it might be something else going on here. Do you have any current codes? If so, post the EXACT code here for comment. Otherwise, it is always a good time to review tuneup hardware with this symptom. That includes fresh champion .035 gapped plugs, new plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter and air filter. |
Check the routing of the CPS wires that you just installed. I once changed one out and then the wire got burnt thru from touching the exhaust manifold.

He replaced the TPS.
If I bought a new TPS that failed testing, it would go back to the place I bought it. The 91-01 TPS units are not designed to be adjusted. |

Been a while since I messed with TPI in my jeep Cherokee conversion but believe it needs to be set at 5.0 volts with the throttle held in the wide open position, hope this helps, if the voltage reading is off , the computer won't give it the right amount of fuel enrichment. Chevokeeman.

Ok so at spiceman I had replaced the dist. cap and rotor new spark plugs and wires just a few weeks ago so I was able to get a multimeter and set the tps to 0 degrees it was set on 40 and after that I ran another diagnostic test and it was sending back that something is goin on with the PCM so idk..

i dont know what the voltage range is. or what itbshould be at wot and idle. try a google search and on a lot of engines its around 5v at wot...
frm my search with the throttle closed it should be aprox 0.6 - 0.8 volts... wot should be aprox 3v this is on a renix motor |
