I am in the process of trying to find a 1998-2001 XJ to use as my daily driver and to tow behind my Class A Motorhome when traveling. I have owned several XJs and they are my favorite 4x4.

Anyway, in looking at tow bars, mounting brackets, etc to see what I would need, i noticed that a lot of the after market front bumpers have big, heavy d-ring mounts already welded on them. So, I started thinking..... Instead of buying the expensive towbar mounts to put on my frame under my stock bumper, why don't I buy a sexy new front bumper and use the D-ring tabs to hook a tow bar too. Has anyone ever done this? If so, I would love to hear about your set up (bumper, towbar, mods, etc.) Pictures would even be better!

On a side note, if you tow your XJ behind an RV, chime in and tell me about your set up even if it does not use an aftermarket bumper.

Where do you live? I just pulled the full harness, front tow bar mount off my 97 xj, and have a folding tow bar too...the front tow bar mount hooked to the frame and extended out past the stock front bumper.

I want to do this as well-replace front bumper with something that gives me recovery points and the ability to connect to flat tow behind RV. Anyone else doing this or have this capability on their XJ? Please share..........

Nates 4X4 can build you a sturdy XJ bumper with winch mount and D-ring plates thru-welded. He can also supply Grade 8 hardware for attachment. And build you a tow bar to match the mounting points.

I've had one on my '87 Pioneer and towed it 5,000+ miles with no problems. Through the Rockies and Yellowstone, among other places.
