Default Tools and Parts to bring to the Offroad Adventure FYI

I'm going to start a threat here that I would like everyone to add on to from experience, in case someone new to the site actually uses the search function. And even if they don't, you can tell them to search for it because the thread exists.

I've noticed the mud isn't the friendliest compound for electronics and bearings. Here's my list of stuff to bring as I have learned in the past and was reminded of yesterday:

-Idler Pulley (nothing sucks like being stranded by a part that costs $5 and takes 5 minutes to install)

-Serpentine Belt

-Lucas/Thick oil additive (cover pulleys and bearings before hand to keep them protected)

-Brake Fluid

-Power Steering Fluid

-Steel wire brush of varying sizes (for convenience, nothing huge though)

-Purple power (Mud)

-PB Blaster (de-rust... yours might be clean but someone elses might not)

-Windshield washer fluid or windex (for the obvious)

-Wheel studs with lugs (recommended for those with wheel spacers, need appropriate tools to knock them out as well)

-Extra rubber hose brake lines (BustedKnuckle broke those out yesterday)

-Small hammer + Big Hammer + Crow bar

-Comprehensive array of tools in a tool box that keeps tools in their appropriate place no matter how much you bounce (mine doesn't)

-Assortment of bolts, nuts, washers etc etc (always keep all those spares you have at the end of your DIY jobs that leave you wondering "What does this go to..?")

-Air compressor

-Cooler with a gallons worth of half gatorade half water. It's the perfect hydration mixture. I could sweat all day long as long as I drink that.

-Video Camera w/ tri-pod

-If you haven't replaced the fuel pump yet and you have the funds... it's a good idea. It's always easier and faster to do it on the spot than to have to get someone to lift you to the nearest store for one... Especially if you're on a weekend trip and it's somewhere you can't get it out of. Also, NAPA won't always have your Bosch fuel pump (don't buy anything other than that) in stock so it'll be a next day pickup. The more you wheel with an old fuel pump... the faster it dies. And if you haven't replaced it and you plan to go wheeling... don't go alone.

-Fuses and Relays (at minimum the ignition, alternator, ASD and Fuel Pump)

-Spare tire (not the donut)

I can't believe I forgot the tape. That's how I fix nasty rubber dry-rots on vacuum hoses. A must for some vehicles, and by some vehicles I usually mean all renix era XJs that have never had them replaced.

duct tape, come-alongs, nuff stuff to start a fire if need be, tow straps, pistol or weapon of some sort. cell phone (if you can find service), wrenches, vice grips, 2 tool boxes, fuses and i can't remember what else. those aren't even a dent of what i haul in my jeep.

a come-along, tow strap, ****** strap, tree strap, buncha flashlights, a GOOD & fully charged jump pack, hi-lift, bugspray, a good set of tools that'll fit just about any bolt, torx or allen on your jeep, zipties, ducktape, rtv silicone, wd40, an extra CPS, a few extra spark plug wires, spare tire (which works great as a base for the hi-lift in the soft stuff), air compressor, a tent & blanket, tire plugs, a shovel, a hammer & prybar, fuses, multimeter, a change of clothes and a 2x4.

also because mine's automatic i keep an extra starter with me.

every time i go wheeling i end up saying at some point, dammit i wish i had "whatever it is"
first thing i do when i get home is go out and get "whatever it is" and add it to my gear lol.

SPARE U-JOINTS!!!!!

I cant tell you guys how awful it is to bust out a u-joint on a trail and not be able to get back to the road. It only costs 10 bucks and can be replaced with a hammer and a spare socket. I always keep 2 in my parts box in the cherokee when I go wheeling. Also heres another list of some things Ive found helpful to bring with me:

-highlift
-flashlight
-spare CPS
-brake cleaner
-trans fluid
-jug of water
-duct tape
-tow straps
-shovel
-first aid kit
-organized tool box
-spare idler pulley
-full size spare tire
-locktight
-gasket maker
-random washers/bolts/nuts
-WD40/PB blaster
-CB radio
