Which Tires to buy
I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, but here goes. I have a 2001 XJ sport, that needs tires. It has Michelin 235/75/15 LTX M/S on it now. I had LTX 225/75/15 on it previously, which i got 80K out of them. I had to go to the 235's because Michelin stopped making the 225's, they have 62K on them. The Jeep is driven on the highway, and in the winter in the snow. can anyone suggest another manufacture? Don't want Goodyear, BFGoodrich. I looked at Hankook, but they look like they are more of a passenger tire tread. I like Michelin's use them on my motorcycles, but they are expensive. Thanks

I have the Grabber AT2'S on my pickup and they do fantastic in the snow and whatever else, however they do have a bit of road noise. If you are looking for another at tire, check out the Firestone Destination AT. Also, keep an eye out for the different types of tires. Some tires are P rated passenger tires and some are C Load. Sometimes the C load tires are a little heavier and can give a little harsher ride. Everything is a tradeoff. What may give you better performance in the snow may make more noise.

Falken wildpeaks, amazing tire for the price they just barely get outperformed by the bfg KO2 but the wildpeaks are significantly cheaper

Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S load range B 65,000 mile treadwear, $134.99 or $539.96 set of 4. simpletire.com
I've used these on both my XJ and my WJ and love them. If you really listen with the windows open , you can hear a very slight hum at speed. Bite like crazy in anything but mud, but then again not much works well in mud.

i was never a fan, and they didnt get the best comments from people, but there are some die hards for them haha..this one guy in particular would buy a used vehicle and immediately swap to mastercraft even if the tires on it already were in great shape

i sold tires for the past 7 years and i would never recommend Michelin or anyvother "commercial" brand, such as those you constantly see on tv commercials. They are overpriced and underperform....i would recommend a good all terrain. You absolutely cant beat the bfg ko2. Other great ones are the general grabber at2 and cooper at3...some good mid range tires are the falken wildpeak at, khumo at51, and hankook dynapro at.

its not the look...i could care less..all terrains now last 50 to 70k miles..nearly the same as highway types..they also perform better in wet conditions, plus having the ability to let you go offroad if you ever wanted to, even if its just a dirt road. Imo, theres no need for a highway tread with todays all terrains

I am running a set now and I wouldn’t recommend them nor buy them again so I’ll agree . I have about 10k on them and they are wearing quickly . Also hydroplane pretty easily !

I have used Mastercraft tires for about 7 years on 4 different vehicles and I have never had a single issue with them, but I have always got the MTs not the ATs.

The reason I like the Coopers is I deliver newspapers and need them for snow traction and I'm cheap enough to not take them off for the summer. I also do a lot of U-turns, K-turns, and slow maneuvering around mailboxes that scrubs rubber off tires quickly on dry pavement. I've tried most of the most popular tires and found the Coopers seem to last the longest with the least road noise. The Firestone Winterguard wore out the fastest and the Grabber's weren't much better. I can get almost 35K miles out of a set of AT3's with the way I use them. I buy a new set when they are worn down to 1/4" tread depth or I get no traction in snow.
