Throttle Cable Dragging

2001 Jeep XJ w/ 4.0

My throttle cable is dragging terribly, to the point it's almost undrivable (can't modulate the pedal position).

I've cleaned the TB and it's silky smooth, cleaned the throttle pedal (plastic) bushings and even replaced the throttle cable with a new Crown replacement unit. I can literally FEEL the cable dragging inside the sheath (disconnect the TB and pedal from the cable and work the cable by hand). The only thing that helped was spraying liquid wrench down into the throttle cable housing (working the oil down into the cable sheath) and I know this is a BAD idea (it WILL collect dust/dirt and gum up over time). The oil helped but it's still pretty bad.

So I need a good replacement cable. I'm thinking of digging up a Lokar universal cable, but wanted to ask if anyone has a better/easier solution.

That's weird.
I'm thinking a good used one from the junkyard would be a better option.

It's rare these Jeeps have a throttle cable failure.

Cruiser, I seem to remember GM had some problem with wire strands breaking in their throttle cables when they first started using them. It turned out they were using twisted strand cables instead of braided ones. IDK if early jeeps used twisted strand, but it's something to check.

It was never an issue.

When I worked for Datsun, we had an issue if the engine ground to chassis was bad, the throttle cable would become the ground. It would melt the plastic sheathing!!!!
