Default Steering column swap

Hello new to the forum. Bought a Cherokee someone tried to steal. They broke up the steering components and the given advice was just get a new column. My Xj is a 1991 manual 5 sp. In a rush to get it fixed, all I could find was columns to fit automatics so I bought an automatic column. The yard I bought it from said there were some differences but they were minor and it would be an easy swap. The one I bought is out of a 1993.

I have not been able to talk to anyone that knows just what the differences are and what needs to be done too make the auto column work. If anyone has done this before or knows a direction to go to find out I would sure appreciate it. Thanks in advance. :

Direct swap. Just need to secure lock rod up so key will turn. I installed a self tapping screw where green dot is then used a zip tie in yellow and pulled rod in red circle up .

Thank you for the pictures, It looks simple enough. But know you've thrown my devious mind into gear!!!!.....as I have already had one round with thieves, when a person wanted to start the vehicle could he just reach under the dash and pull the rod back until the key turned and then release it or would the steering wheel lock up ? and I would guess that on shutdown you would have to pull it again to get the key out ? Just thinking it could be a poor man's security device or maybe i'm just thinking to much !!!! regardless, thank you for helping me out.

If I read your schematic correctly, the lockout lever(shaft) also acts as a kill switch ?

You kinda left him hanging there, didn't you, free? I mean, from 01-10-2016 to 05-18-18?

That's almost 2 1/2 years to answer the guy!

Thank you freegdr for the fix information.
Totally helped me out on my column swap.

I ended up using two zip ties on mine.
