Default Thermostat Question

Thanks for all of the previous help and suggestions.

I need to know if there are better manufacturer for thermostats for my 92 Jeep Cherokee 4.0? Are there better brands out there other than STOCK at the dealer or is it reasonable to assume that a thermostat is a thermostat.

I realize that it should be a 190 degree temp, and the problems associated with dropping down to a 180 degree thermostat, so stay with a name brand or ??? Which brand is less prone to problems, better accuracy and flow to help keep my Cherokee from damage.

It is getting all new cooling system ie: (hoses, lower with spring, CSF all metal 3 pass radiator, thermostat, fan clutch is new and heater valve is new).

Also, do I need that rubber deflector under the front of the body that covers the front of the engine from the lower front body lip almost to the front suspension (4X4 version) or does that also help to keep the air from getting out of the engine compartment? Suggestions?

Thanks again,

Bob

Get a STANT 195 deg T-stat. If you have overheating issues, fix them, don't cover them up lower temp T-stat.

jstewart1960,

I was curious as to if removed it would allow more hot air to escape from the engine bay, otherwise it can stay where it is to help keep splashed water away from parts that do not like water, there was a reason that Jeep spent the money to put it there. LOL Mine is STOCK!!

93gc40,

Not trying to limit a overheating issue, I was just wondering if there were BETTER thermostats on the market for accuracy, flow and reliability, so as I replace all of the cooling system I only use parts that will last as long as possible.

Thanks for the info and help,

Bob
