Cars have acrylic based paints. even if there is whats the big deal? do you plan on licking or eating your XJ?

There is no lead but TONS of other bad things that you don't want in your system.

I do body work and am around fresh paint and paint dust all day. Any time you do any grinding or sanding you really should wear a respirator.

X2 on the "don't eat paint chips" remark

No, because our XJ's weren't painted in China.

I hope not! I sanded down my '92 before paintin' it! w00t

Here is the last pic I have before I reinstalled the flares.

Yup, the paint is Valspar Industrial OSHA Yellow. Rolled on. 18 coats. Wet sanded between coats. Very shiny now. And only $30 for paint!

You "rolled it" on? I have never heard of painting a auto that way before. Do you have any close-up pics to share? Is the finish smooth or rippled?

Yeah it looks really good, I think he just used a regular old paint roller too. If I recall correctly the little air bubbles pop and it drys very evenly, you just have to wet sand between every coat and you need a lot of coats. In some of the early pics it looks green because you can still the original paint through it.
