Is there an easier way to remove old gasket material from the oil pan and engine bloc
So im prepping to put my New rear main seal in,and know I gotta clean up the mating surfaces of the block and oil pan.
It appears the old gasket may have been made out of the paper gasket material. Its super thin, super hard and a bear to scrape.
Is there an easier way to get this material off? Perhaps some kind of chemical to soften it up?

I use a 3" wire brush wheel on a drill.
While your int there I would inspect a rod bearing, the one farthest from the oil pump.
If its well worn toss in a new set.
I use a bench grinder wire wheel to clean up pans, valve covers etc.

It might not be right but I use a small wire wheel on a die-grinder. You could also use those little scrubby pad things my friends use them. I just always forget to pick them up when I'm at the store.
