Temporary freeze plug fix?

Hey guys, so I've been dripping coolant out of my freeze plug for a while now on and off (the one at the back of the block), but yesterday I dumped a whole bucket of coolant out of it. I'm looking for a temporary fix that will last me about a week until I decide whether to change the plug(s), buy a new engine (original has 260k and other typical high mileage problems), or buy another low mileage Cherokee and just swap all parts over. So what have you all done to temporarily fix a freeze plug?

Some years ago, I bought a rubber type freeze plug for temporary replacement. It had a bolt in the center to expand the plug once it was in the hole. This was a cup type plug replacement, but the flat type plug hole may be a problem. Don't know what type the Jeep engine has back there....

The head has to come off to replace that plug with a steel or brass one.

There is a valve stem tube that runs close to there. It prevents a rubber plug from seating squarely and fully. Since a rubber plug will be cocked, it will blow out sooner or later. There's no way to prevent this.

I know this from bitter personal experience.

OP,

Is this the plug you are talking about? If so, the transmission and flexplate will need to be removed to replace it. A bucket of coolant means it's pretty much shot and any stop leak additive won't help.

Temporary freeze plug fix?

Alright so the way it sounds you HAVE to drop the transmission to get access to it and there's really no point in doing that just for a temporary fix
