Default Temp shut of sensor?

Is there a sensor that shuts the engine off if the temp gets too hot? I have narrowed my problem down to heat. If the temp gets just over 210 it sputters, jerks, and dies. I have to wait 15-20 mins and it will start again. Since I got my vents working if I run the heater when it hits 210 it won't die. If I let it go it does. So I'm thinking a sensor or its getting hot enough to vapor lock? I'm going to take the advise of another posting and check my coolant temp to make sure my guage is correct. Any ideas? One day I'll get to stop spending money on keeping this thing running and get my new lift

After further strenuous research I have seen there is no safety over heat kill switch on these things. I have seen numerous posts saying a fuel pump can fail when it gets hot then be fine again after it cools down. I called to get a quote on replacing it and the guy said that "when fuel pumps go bad they go bad and don't work and thats it so it's not the fuel pump". That is what I thought but other forums say different. Any opinions?

the CPS can be heat sensitive... I have had 2 go out about that way. but being able to keep the jeep running with the heater on makes me think it is a cooling problem.
Might try replacing your thermostat. But finding out how hot the jeep is actually getting should be your first step.

Default ICM

I am new to jeeps, but I have wrenched on a lot of ford and chevys. On a lot of vics when the Ignition control module gets old and starts to wear out it will cause this. I don't know about the jeeps, or if it has one, but a lot of ICMs have a cold and hot function. It will work until it gets hot then what you are describing happens. Hope this helps

Also: You can normally get an ICM tested at a local parts store.

It died on my way home from work today again. I was in a safe spot so I popped the hood. Turns out the electric fan is not kicking on. I had the heater running so it barely broke 210 but still died. I'm gonna replace the fan, thermostat, CPS, and have the ICM checked when I get paid next tues. Thanks guys!

No thermal shut down on 91! CPS is poss. culprit and most times just a dirty connector. The fuel lines run down the drivers side and are held on by plastic clips that can and do break! Check to make sure that 1 if not both are not hanging out too close to the intake and exhaust as they come up from the frame to the fuel rail -long shot but worth looking at.

I believe the electric fan doesn't kick on until 217 degrees. Or if the AC is on it runs. Was your AC on when it died?
What are the symptoms when it dies? Does it shut off in the beat of a second? Or does it sputter and run rough for a few seconds?
