temp gauge dosnt work???
i bought my 93 xj about 3 months ago. the temp gauge hasnt worked since i bought it.
i replaced the sensor and still nothing. the only time it reads anything is when i turn the key and the engine is cranking. while its cranking the gauge is pegged. when i let off the key it gos all the way down.
i have a multi meter. is there a way to see if i have a bad wire with it? or do i need to get behind the gauge.
my electric fan works i here it click on periodically and i have a new clutch fan if that helps.
i have another gauge that was going to go in my boat, but i have no wiring diagram or sensor. can i hook that to my existing sensor? not knowing what the engine temp is drivin me nuts.
thanks for all your time and knowledge.

not too sure mine dont work either but thats because when i was working on it i broke the sensor...maybe you overtightened when you installed the new sensor? You gotta be sure not to do that, its easy to do, heard of many people doing just that. Try throwing another sensor on it.

Did you replace the one on the back of the motor against the firewall on drivers side? I forgot to hook mine back up after replacing tranny. Just wondering.

Check the sensor on the top back driver's side of the engine block. I killed three when I swapped my engine. There is a difference between the sensors, gauge or light. I ended up getting a metal pipe extension from the hardware store and fitted the sensor into it. It works, but reads about 10 degrees higher than actual temp

From what I remember when fixing mine. There is a temp sensor at the very back, near the firewall, and also one at the very front. Ck both.
