i hav a 96 jeep cherokee and i was wondering if this was the coolant temp sender and would it keep my temp gauge from working. if so where can i get one from and how do i change it. in the pics it is the gray plug. ok well it wouldnt let me upload the pics but this site here has a pic of the same thing i have.

The coolant temperature sensor is located on the driver side of the motor, all the way in on the back side of the cylinder head. It is right up against the fire wall and is kinda hard to see but it does look exactly like the on in the pics from the link you posted. If your gauge has not been working, that is where I would start. Understand, when you remove the old sensor, you will loose coolant and introduce air into your system. You will need to replace the sensor when the motor is cold and there is no pressure built up in the system to minimize coolant loss. If you already have not done so, I would also purchase a Hayne manual or Chiltons manual for your rig. Very good idea. Good Luck!!

When you get the chiltons (its better), check the resistance of your gauge, I am not sure if defaults low resistance or high resistance, it should tell you in the book, that will only work if you have a meter set to dc or ohms.

in the pic to the right it is the gray plug. would this be a replacement for it. thanks everyone for the help.
