Tell me what you think.
Do you know that spray on paint that makes things look kinda like rock? Well I want to take that paint in maybe a dark green and spray the whole Jeep and then take flat black and put the original strips back on it AND THEN seal it with a clear coat. (wow can you say run-on!) What do you guys think? Has anyone tried it before? I think the look will be cool, you know kinda like "my Jeep will be one with the rocks it crawls" kinda thing. Thanks for any and all advice!

i was thinking about doing this but it would cost too much, the clear is gonna be shiney so note that, even though some say its not, it is. i think it would look cool, but im old and febble so my thoughts dont count

Haha yeah I didn't even consider that the clear would be shiny. Hmm..... Do you think that would take away from the effect? I really don't want to leave the "rock" bare because I want it to last long.

check around and see if you can find a realllll matte finish clearcoat, if so go for it. i couldnt find any that didnt shine, i tried duplicolor and rustoleum, they both shine even in matte finish. bought a can of both....

I think Dupli-color makes a grey, fleck paint in a rattle can for doing trunk linings and such. I know I used one in the trunk of one of my old cars, and it looked pretty cool. I know a guy out here has a '40 Olds that he did in orange bed-liner, and it looks pretty damn wicked.

Do you hear banjos?
Do several coats with the paint, and screw the clear coat. You won't like the look, and if you botch it, it'll look like poo on the end of a sharp stick, IMHO!! I think the look you're going for is a matte finish anyway, so why clear coat a paint that is matte already?? HTH!!

spray it on a piece of metal you have laying around, and then beat the living crud out of it, see how it holds up. thats the only real way to test it....and rustoleum doesnt require clear at all.
