TCC Solenoid
So I got a CEL and it kicked out a code for the torque converter clutch solenoid. I've talked to a mechanic and he says it is definitely related to some problems i'm having (doing some strange shifting while driving. The gears shift through fine, however when i'm cruising there is occasionally a jump or reduction in RPM, like its trying to shift). I've never messed with a transmission, and was wondering if anybody knew if this was an easy replacement that I could do myself? I'm all for learning new stuff, so if this is something that doesn't require insane tools or a professional to do, I'll give it a shot. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Oh, if it makes a difference I have a little over 198K miles on it

its not too bad to change just have to drop the transmission pan. and from there just un bolt and unplug the tcc. just be delicate with the wires inside the transmission they can get brittle over time.

not saying this is your problem, but before you buy parts chase the wiring harness that runs on the top of the trans. my wifes XJ was having trans problems, I had a few "transmission shops" look at it. one said solonoids, one said TCM and the last said the trans was shot. I checked the wiring and found some bare wires that were grounding out causing all the codes and issues. I repired the wires and it's been fine since. it only cost me a few hours and a roll of black tape.

Also, i've seen the same transmission as mine have 3 solenoids: two shifting solenoids and one labeled OD solenoid. Is the OD one the same as the torque converter clutch solenoid?

I heard a test while when cruising, you tap on the brakes. When I did this the rpm shot up a little bit (I believe it was the torque converter clutch disengaging). Is this good or bad? I really have no idea, I only heard about the test itself.

Hello all. I have a 97 Cherokee, inline 6, 2 wheel drive, 3 speed Auto and I got a check engine light with a code saying that my TCC Solenoid needs to be replaced. The mech wants 800 to fix it, my brother said he could replace it. I have called several different parts place and nobody can find this TCC solenoid. Is it called something else?
