so i checked the fluid level in the case today and it's quite low. what makes more sense, to drain all the old fluid and open it up to inspect it and clean it and refill it, or just simply top it off?

it's probably been at least 8 or 9k miles since i changed the fluid in there. hasn't been changed since i did the sye.

There is not much to clean in a tc. If you are not having any clunking-shifting issues then it's ok. 9k and the level is low? you have a leak somewhere...

yes i know i have a leak, it's a fairly slow one though. has always been there ever since i did the sye, i think it's the o-ring in the speedo gear, i've just never changed it.

another question for this.

would a somewhat low fluid level in the tcase cause a loud hum from that area? not so much of a vibe as just a loud hum. i dont feel it under the jeep, just hear. sounds like it would translate to ds vibes, but like i said i cant feel anything and my rear ds is well greased with good ujoints and very little play.

I'd say no, but i wouldn't totally exclude it, depends on how low the fluid is.
