tcase fluid

What's the best t case fluid

Gee oh Dee 05-03-2013 01:26 PM

I used ATF the last time I filled mine. I had extra I had no use for.

Gear oil may be good as well, but I'm notbsure what viscosity would be best.

dex/merc lll is what i put in mine. it is what was in there from the factory, so thats good enough for me. I know the factory now says atf4 but thats only because thats what the stealership is selling.

ATF-4 works just fine.

BatmanXJ 05-03-2013 02:17 PM

ATF fluid is what I use.

X2 that's what I used after installing my SYE. Pep Boys $4.00 +/- a quart ( i think) I needed just over 1 quart if memory serves me....

No, don't use that.

It is best to use whatever ATF you use in your tranny to avoid excess inventory or screwup when servicing tranny/TC.

There is data that has shown that motor oil 5W-30 can be used. I haven't tried this but it sounds interesting.

Any interest in being a Guinea Pig using motor oil?

This^^. ATF. Less than $10 worth.

belvedere 05-03-2013 09:28 PM

No reason to chance it when ATF is cheap and readily available. Use any name brand ATF and you'll be good to go.

Yes. I've seen the results of using gear lube in NP transfer cases. Ain't worth screwing with.
