Tank won't fill
So I bought a stock Xj a year or so ago and ever since I bought it the fuel tank won't fill all the way. The pump clicks off at about 3/4s. I've replaced the fuel pump/sending unit, and I've dropped the tank twice and I can't find anything wrong. I noticed not long ago that If you hold the trigger so it just trickles fuel out, you can very very slowly fill the tank more, but it takes about 30 minutes. Anyone have any ideas on what I can check to see if I can get some better range out of my tank? I'm getting tired of always having to refill out of a can that I take wheeling with me in the mountains. |
Have you pulled the fill and vent hoses out and inspected them? The vent may be blocked.

I didn't pull the hoses, just the tank. The thing is tho it is very consistent on where I the pump clicks off.. it's the same level every time. But then after that if i fill super slow, then I can fill it that last quarter... |
Most likely your evap system is plugged up or has a bad solenoid not allowing your tank to vent properly. I had this problem when I first got my Jeep so I unplugged the line and ran a new vent hose off of the tank and vented it into the air, all is good now.

Goll I guess I didn't realize that ole girl has an Evan system... what am I looking for? There's the 2 vent looking deals with the 1/4 inch hose coming off of them, would they have anything to do with it? |

Did you ever get an answer to this issue? I have a 2000 XJ and when I fill up the tank, it says I am only putting 16 (maybe 17 gallons) in the tank. But, it is a stock 20 gallon tank.
