Default Tank sizes?

I'm currently running a 20 gallon tank that suffered some gore this last trail ride. Is there an easy way to distinguish between the smaller tank (12 gallon, I think it is) and the 20 gallon tank on another XJ when I head to the boneyard today?

one is almost twice the size of the other? 12 - 20 gallons is a big difference

I believe somewhere on the tank will be a indication of the capacity. But yes - you should be able to see the difference.

I di believe all newer ie 91+ XJ's in the 4.0 I6 came with 20 gal as a standard but I could be wrong. I also am pretty certain only the 4 cylinders had the 13 gal tanks.. Trust me you can tell for sure by site and it will be labeled on the tank just not sure where and you will likely have to remove the cover.

Turns out that U-pull-and-pay actually drills a hole in the bottom of the gas tanks in order to drain them...would have been nice to know before I pulled one....

Took me about 90 minutes to pull that b***h with help from a buddy.
