Default T-Case swap

ok so could a swap a t case out of a 90 xj auto with a NP242 into a 93 xj 5 speed with a NP231

I don't think the t-case would bolt up to the 5 speed trany but you could swap the auto tranny and t-case to you 93..

no they will not swap.....90 and older have 21 spline inputshaft and 91 and newer have 23 spline

I just read that thread the only prob is the trannys one being 5 speed and the other auto. I did see that alot of ppl said to do research and i have done some not much but i havnt been about to really find out anything

i just swaped my 242 out for a 231......my new one came from a 5 speed and mine is an auto. bolted right up.

still wont work four you becase of the spline count yo

Ok that's good to know that it's just a spline count issue. I wasn't sure if the t-case mounts between auto and manual would be the same. Just find a 91 or newer t-case and do the swap. If you lived closer I'd sell one of the 242's I have.

its not that simple the shaft length different also

ok so they will bolt up but the shaft leinghts are different and so are the splines so in other words it wont work as a simple swap correct???

correct

its not a HO 4.0 motor in the 90 xj right

it may be possible to change the input gear from the 231 into the 242
it would require disassembly of both TCs and inspection of the gear to verify they are the same other than the spline
then you would be good to go

how much work would that be to just check??? I have never tore into a T-Case or anything close to them lol

I am not the expert on that
but you should be able to swap them out in two Hrs
depending on your mechanical skills and tool box

according to the Novak conversion info the can be swapped in the years you posted but nothing later than the 93 will work cus of the gear cut
