t-case shifter won't bugde
I have a 93 XJ automatic and my transfer case is stuck in neutral (between 4HI and 4LO) and the shifter won't budge. any tips on why or what to do before I take it out and tear it down would be greatly appreciated.

Just make sure that when you move the handle it actually moves all the way to the transfer case. Sometimes a pin can pop out (did when I was 4x4 before and stuck in neutral). Popped a pin back in and it worked like a champ.

Sometimes putting the tranny in D or R with it running of course, helps my TC to shift into gear easier.

That may very well be your next next step. If you can't even get it to shift by hand right on the side of the TC, there is serious bindage going on inside.

i had a similar problem when i installed my sye.
their are two shift forks, if one gets stuck for some reason then it will not go back into 2wd. if you just pull off the tail cone on tc you will see a shift rod sticking out that is connected to the one fork inside. it should move in be for it will shift back into 2wd. a spring is what moves it back when shifting back into 2wd so broken spring , shift fork or gear teeth.:hang: if your lucky like i was the rod just got stuck in the after market tail cone hole for the sye. |
I hope nothing's broke I just replaced the steering stabilizer bar and shock + the tie rod and tie rod ends and i'm broke. that's how I figured out the shifter was in a bind

ouch...... do you have some pics of it you can post??
I got the t-case back in and it's working fine. It just needed some cleaning (mud and grime had the linkage locked up) :icon_cheesygrin: Took it out riding around town it seems to be working fine except for a small leak out of my tailshaft. Any ideas on why it would be leaking out the tailshaft? (drips of the edge around the driveshaft) (still has slip yolk in it) |
