Ok my T case is a np231 (i think) 2wd, 4pt, n, 4L.. Its bad (so I was told) and needs to be replaced, a buddy of mine has a np242 (I think) 2wd, 4pt, 4ft, n, 4L that he will sell me for $40 if i pull it myself off his parts jeep. Mine is a 95 his parts jeep is an 87.
Will this bolt up to my jeep with no problems, or am I going to have to change a bunch of stuff?
Please help, I really want my 4wd fixed.

No this is not a bolt in. Do not try and switch from the 231 to the 242. Look on Craigslist.com or call your local junk yards. Unfortunantly your buddies 242 will not work.

a 242 will work in place of a 231. just not the years you described for 2 reasons. different input spline count, and no eletric to kick 4x4 light on. If you foun a 91+ in will work. no matter what make sure you get a 91+ 231 or 242
