Default SYE with No lift?

Is it possible to install one without a lift? I want to get as much stuff out of the way before i do my lift so im not overwhelmed. I plan to use a PORC SYE and front XJ Drive shaft. any neg Effect?

i wouldn't bother with that yet, you'll need a custom driveshaft now, then when you lift, you'll probably have to replace it with a longer one.

unless you get an extra t-case, do the SYE and leave it off till you're ready. then install it and measure for driveshaft.

im not gonna spend the $ for a custom D/S(way to much), will a xj Front Drive shaft colapse enought for a stock height XJ

stock height, hmmm, i don't think so.
but you'll never know until you have it all in and measure allowing enough for full suspension extension/collapse in the rear.

do you have a 231 or 242?

yes it will.

I may have run a 5 speed shaft in back, it was near almost extended so a auto front shaft should work.

short answer; no, just wait. if you already have it purchased just do it after the lift. whats the difference?

The front shaft measures at 30.660 colapsed for the automatic 4.0 shaft. So measure your rear DS and compare and that will tell you if it will work or not. A 91 D35 DS in an automatic measures roughly 35" from yoke to the rear ujoint. The front extended fully measures roughly from front to rear with CV wiggle joint about 36". Both are from a 91 XJ.

the lifts the easy part...wait. then when lifted youll be able to get under easier...lol if you put sye and front shaft in it may work but you dont want your joints (ujoint, flanges) to be to straight or they will tear up and wear out quick because you have to have a slight working angle for them to work properly, not sure if that applys for u joints without needdle bearings but i replace them all the time on heavy equipment trucks that wiegh down suspension and cause drive lines to have almost straight angle... jst my .2 cents,,,,like i said i woud wait the lift is the eaisest part. especially if you dont drop the t case to put the sye on...

just wondering because i just didnt want to get everything in and have to do the lift,SYE,brakelines etc in the same day. I hate to feel rushed and since this is my dd i cant afford to not be able to finish it. just trying to get some stuff out of the way early.

I say do it as well. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work based on measuring.

its actually a smart idea to get it out of the way, thats why I did it, less to do when the lift/axles/tires go in
