i have a 4.5 lift and i was wondering if there is a differance in the sye if its the hack and tap or a full kit and also do i need to replace the driveshaft with it ? and is it neccassary to do a sye i have the 242 transfer case

The hack-n-tap and the "full kit" are completely different. The hack-n-tap only works with sealed output shaft t-cases, and the full kit replaces the output shaft and housing, so you'd have to get one for the 242 (which is probably different enough from the 231, but I'm not sure).

Yes, you need a new shaft, one with a CV joint (just like your front shaft), and you'll need to "clock" up the pinion (point the diff up toward the tcase). There's a decent amount of info on this in other threads. Do you research carefully to get the right kit and the right length shaft.
