Default Swapping parts from a 99 to a 89 cherokee?

I was wondering how interchangeable parts are from a 1999 cherokee 4x4 with the strait six to a 1989 jeep cherokee 4x4 limited with the strait six?

Here's my deal. I have a 99 cherokee that was in a roll-over, but the drivetrain is solid with very low miles. Still can be driven even, but the body is completely shot. I also have a 89 limited (my daily driver) that has a good body with a suspension lift. The motors run great on both jeeps, but on the 89 everything leaks. I like to call it a leaker. It leaks Coolant, brake fluid, and power steering fluid and not just hoses it leaks form all mechanical parts. The 89 has a very wierd brake setup. Looks like maybe a power brake system? I'd like to build one really nice jeep out of both and have an extra motor and trans for spare, but I don't know how easily it can be done? any suggestions?

Thanks, it's my first thread. I recently acquired both jeeps for basically nothing.

All suspension parts are fully interchangable.

I doubt you can use the tranny. It's got a computor in the '99' for it

Cool thanks. The reason I was wondering is becuase the brake system and the cooling system look completely different from my 99 to my 89 although the motor looks the exact same.

It sucks because the cooling system and brake system on my 89 limited aren't working so well and I'd like to use the 99's components. There's a brake cable that runs along the fire wall from the booster to what looks like a power pressurizer in the 89. It leaks, it's a high pressure cable which I can't find anywhere and the stealerships want damn near 300 for a brake cable!(almost pulled my hair out) No one would make me a cable because no on had the right fittings. Its a big piece of sh&t system. I even tried salvage yards, but each jeep that had that system the cable was already taken..bastards!!

Well, since it looks like the suspension is all swappable. Does anyone know if it would be possible to take the body from the 89 and swap it to the 99 along with the 4.5" rough country that's under the 89?

It sounds like one of them bigger jobs, I know, but *****, I aint got sh$t else to do this summer!

I like your enthusiasm. I am not sure body swapping will work on those since the cherokee is a unibody machine. (unless i read that incorrectly) Best bet would be to install all of the '99 parts into the '89.

I feel like a newbie after doing a little further research and talking to a buddy, I'm now just finding out cherokees are unibodies. Body swapping wont work,(im used to pick-up) but so far it looks like the unibodies are pretty much the same.
I'm going to start stripping the 99 and taking it one step at a time.
I'll try to get some pics up of my cherokee soon.

thanks again for the replies.
