turbo it. will give you the "gusto" and be lighter

I had a cherokee with the 4.0 a few years back and loved it, GREAT motor, pretty efficient, plenty of torque, easy to work on. My past rig had a 22r so now the 2.5 isn't to bad. I kinda like being the underdog.

the 2.5 is not a bad motor, enough power off road, but is lacking on highway, other then that does its job

According to my information the firewall was pushed back when the 4.0 was introduced to replace the 2.8 GM motor. After that the firewall was the same.

This is not to bad of a swap if you have a 4.0 cherokee with the donor motor and you just transfer the parts over. Firewall is the same. It would be a bit different if you had like a 4.0 long block that you wanted to swap. Could be done but it would be more of a hassle.

Yes, it can be done, if you are knowledgeable and mechanical then should be fairily simple. With this best way is to find a donor vehicle that you can take stuff from for the swap.
