Swapping 1997 trans to 2000
I am swapping a 1997 transmission into my 2000 Jeep Cherokee and I have noticed that the 1997 transmission only has one speed sensor and also has a different plug then the 2000 has anyone came across this problem before? Is there a plug converter or something?
Assuming this is for an AW4, you have to do some disassembly/machining and some parts swapping for the 97 to work in a 98-01. The 97 TCM uses an output speed sensor signal (pin 4). The 98-01 TCM (which are different part numbers altogether) use this pin as well, but also require an input speed sensor signal and input speed sensor ground (pins 1 and 2) on top of that. The 98-01 were also wired for an output speed sensor ground (pin 3), that the 97 TCM was not wired for. That missing speed sensor on the 97 will cause problems with the 98-01.
It would be quicker and easier just to use a transmission from another 98-01. Plug and play. Whats wrong with the 2000?
