Swap cruise control from 99 to 98 XJ

So I just bought a 98 XJ Sport 5spd that among other things, does not have cruise control. I have a 99 with cruise and would like to transfer it over.

Both Jeeps are 5spd Sport models, the one with cruise is a 99 the new one is a 98

I've been reading through the forum and it seems like the only things that are different are the switches, am I correct in saying this? From what I've read, it seems like the newer switches won't work with the older computer. If this is the case, how hard would it be to swap computers as well?

Also, are there any other components that are not compatible between 98 and 99 such as the clock spring/wiring connectors?

You are correct. All you need are the 98 model switches.

I wouldn't be attempting to swap computers. There are tons of them on Ebay.

Where are you located?

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll order some switches. I live in northwest CT.

Also, on an unrelated note, driving the new jeep home, some weird squealing noise started coming from what I think is the blower motor. Are there any other components in the heating system that could cause this? It happens for a few seconds and then goes away and comes back about 30 seconds later.

The only two rotational devices in the heat/ac system are the blower motor and the AC compressor. It's coming from inside the cab or under the hood?

I ask where you live because I'm looking for a 99 5-speed XJ for all the 5-speed parts. CT is too far, though.

Louder with the windows down so probably under the hood. I was thinking it could be the ac clutch but as far as I can tell, it only happens with the blower running. Will diagnose further this weekend when I'm home.

I don't think you would want this 5spd unless you were planning on rebuilding everything. Hence why I bought another one.

If it's loud then I'd say that your belt is loose and is only squealing when the AC compressor kicks on. Tighten the belt.

I want the 5-speed for the computer, pedal assembly, transmission, firewall, etc. I'd scrap the Jeep when I was done. ;) Too bad you aren't closer.
