Suspension falling off. Is my JEEP Dead?
Last night, Some idiot stopped at a green light...I hit the brakes pretty hard, and heard an ominous thud. When I got home, I found the suspension arm separated from the frame rail!
I'm not much of a welder myself...but I fear there's no more good metal to make a good weld to re-attach. Is my JEEP done? Its a 2000 XJ. Still runs pretty good. Only 165,000 miles...but much of them on Northern Ohio's salty winter roads!
Any ideas??
Thanks!

Go to the kitchen. Put a piece of bread in the oven @ 350* for 15 minutes. When done, grab a knife and butter it, because it's toast, LOL
If that happened, imagine the rest of the uni-frame. Time to move on.

wow that is the worst i have ever seen, i dont think a frame stiffeners or anything would fix that.
maybe get some frame stiffeners and go long arms if you are desperate....but I don't even know if id use it as a trail rig.

Rust spreads like cancer, and what you see is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. The rest of the framerail cant be far behind. With only 165k miles, that is sad. Start looking for another XJ. That one is no longer safe to drive.

Sad to say but she is done for unless you want to spend mucho money fixing it it isnt worth it tbh. You could probably part it out and make more money with the engine, trans and such. But still it is rotted badly i wouldnt trust driving that.

Or, part it out, buy another. But, definitely don't drive that one...it is not safe.

Yep that damage is nothing to laugh about that is very dangerous now. Please dont drive it just dont. I been in a rotted car before and almost died in a pontiac grand am when the k frame just disintegrated and dug the front into the dirt and rolled it into a ditch on the highway. It is very scary so dont drive it. Dont want to lose a fellow jeeper.

If that happened just from slamming on the brakes... A bad set of railroad tracks or god forbid an accident? Very bad things just waiting to happen.
That's a deathtrap. Scavenge what you can and scrap the rest, sorry man.

Yikes! Holy crap batman. Sorry to say it but RIP. Not sure how you managed to get a sticker on that..
I'd love to see some more pictures of the unibody rails.

Im sure you can find another body for cheap with or without an engine. but the job would sound easier without the engine lol. plus itll give you a chance to start fresh so to say new parts, clean engine bay if youre into that, And if theres no engine just tip it on its side and do a little body work underneath. like addressing any rust (not rot), damage or simply spraying a coat of protection underneath to prevent this from happening. The world if your oyster lol.
