Stupid Question
Have the valve cover off, how do I know which valve is intake, and which is exhaust. Trying to bring Cyl #1 to TDC but I don't know if the front most valve should start compressing down as I pass 0 on the timing marks or if it's the second one. I'm 50/50, betting on the first one.

Just place your thumb in the spark plug hole and feel for the pressure as the piston comes up. Then you are on the Compression stroke. ..
BTW The Front valve is the Exhaust valve I think. Look and see if the #1 Exhaust port is more forward than the #1 Intake runner. The valve closest to the exhaust runner is the exahust valve..And Vise Versa....

You have the valve cover off right? you don't need to stick your finger in the engine.. Put the crankshaft in tdc and if the two rockers of the first cil are depressed (valves closed) you are in comp. stroke. The intake/ exhaust valves correspond to the intake/exhaust ports easily recognizable by the manifolds.

If both springs are not depressed, sitting level with each other then I'm good, if one or the other is depressed then I'm on the exhaust stroke.
