Stupid belt squeal
so i changed my tensioner and belt a couple days ago and yet again the squeal has come back any ideas its starting to piss me of... ill have to stick it in the car crusher at work and then see who squeals
|
i know this might sound obvious and you might have already tried it but try spraying all of the pullys and belt accessories with a little wd-40 or whatever you like to use. when ever i start a vehicle up that i haven't ran in awhile sometimes the belt will squeal really bad and a little lubrication clears it right up.

I had a squeal on my pickup I changed the tensioner and the idler pully too ,2 new belts from (advanced auto) .Then I went and bought a belt at napa and that fixed it.Yup I was pissed then. I also tried that spray the belt trick it hardly ever works on a serpentine belts on the old v-grooves it worked but nomore.

ill try the wd-40 trick... and probily ill change the belt... if that dont help im gonna change the pwr steer pump see if that works
|
the quallity of the belt Will make a differance. i had the same squeel problem, thought i had a bad pulley, so i inspected all of them and found that the belt had alot of weather check on it, so i went to my local parts store and picked up the cheapest one i could find. BAD *&(^$ choice. it squeeled worse than the one i had, so then i got a gates and no more squeel.
yeah i paid more money but when it comes to belts,,, just get a good one. |
yea the first day i put the new belt on it stopped second day no problems... third day little squealin every so often... forth day full blown case of the squeals :( maybe i should stop going mud boggin that would help some

By the way - WD-40, belt quiet, stop squeal, or any other crap in a can will not fix your belt, ever... When have you used a lubricant to keep something from slipping? |
99 whitelightning: Here is an old mechanic trick for squeeking belts. Take a little dielectric grease and put it on the underside of the belt. It will instantly stop you squeeking sound if it is from the belt. It works like a champ every time.
