Default Streering and suspension question.

I was wondering, and yes this is the first jeep I've owned, and love it. But what is the purpose of the track bar on a 2wd? And do they ever go bad?
I'm having some steering issuse, and was wondering if that would contribute to it. I was told when I bought the XJ that I should replace the track bar and pitmen arm, but never did, cause I didn't see how they could be bad?

Also, I want to put the Rusty's 3" add-a-leaf in this, but was wondering if I would have to change the degree that the leafs site on the rear axle?

I think that's it.

Thanks,
J

Pitman arms don't go bad. Who told you that? Trackbars can go bad at the bushings or tie rod end. You have to sit under the front end and watch the joints while someone turns the steering wheel back and forth. Look for play in the joint.

You have a track bar on the front of your XJ whether it is a 2WD or a 4WD because the same 4 link and solid front axle suspension is used. The 4 link type suspension offers to side to side stability for the axle, so you have got to have a track bar. This is why ZJs, WJs and TJs have track bars in the front and back. Because they are 4 link front and rear.
