Default 1st gear clicking noise when taking off

I have started to notice my 95 4.0 5 spd when taking off after the jeep been sitting for more then 30 minutes there is a clicking sound and gets faster with the rpm and sometimes it even goes into second gear sometimes. But after that it stops. Sound coming from passenger side front I think I pulled the cat and muffler and had all welds checked on exhaust nothing from there still has the sound

Not entirely sure, but it almost sounds like something with the transmission. One of my buddies has a Honda Civic and his was making a very similar noise in first and sometimes second. Replaced his transmission (other assorted issues with it) and it went away.

Was it automatic or 5 speed? Mines a 5 speed I just don't understand why it only does when it sits or after you turn it off for a few mins then turn back on go drive it does it then after that it's fine

It's a 5 speed as well. His did it all the time, no matter what since he got it. We believe it was doing it well before he bought it, but the PO never did anything about it and just let it get worse.

I hope it's not the trans but prob be cheaper then the motor. I thought at first might be timing chain or transfercase chain but I can't tell I just don't like leaving things to mess up or make things worse it's coming from passenger side under neath towards the friont. I ruled out exhaust and I noticed if I rev it a few times befor I take off it doesn't do it???

Hmm....I'm at a loss now. It still SOUNDS like it could be the trans, but coming from the passenger front? My only other idea would be something up with the starter....IDK what, but maybe something.

I think the best thing to do would be get a buddy and have him either listen underneath or you do while revs it.

I suppose it's possible. Any chance you could try and get a video of it when it happens?
