I'm running a 1996 XJ with an automatic transmission. 165,000 miles. Everything is great with the car, but every so often while traveling at highway speeds, the transmission and the engine will suddenly stop talking to each other. The engine will just rev and the car slows down to a halt. When this happens, if I stop the car and turn off the engine, then start it back up, she runs fine and away we go again, no problem. This has happened a few times now and it's puzzling me. Anybody have thoughts on what the problem might be? Thanks.
