Strange "resistance" felt and short harsh grinding sound when I start moving
Every repair or upgrade I will make to my XJ will be the first time i ever see or touch whichever part I'm working on.
But, like allot of people, a few YouTube videos and help from people much more knowledgeable than me is all I need to help me get through most repairs.
So... I start up my engine, put it in first, and get moving. As soon as my tires start turning, I hear this moderately loud grinding sound. Not a high pitched metallic squeal, but more like two old rough pieces of iron being rubbed together under pressure.
It doesnt last long at all, and does not happen while in motion (at least as far as i can tell).
I took a good look underneath to see what i could see, but nothing looks off.
I have disc brakes in the front and drum in the back, is it possible that the brake pad or whatever its called is rubbing against it? or am i way off?
Thanks in advance!

WELCOME !!
As they like to say around here :Noggin Pokin needed"
Start by jacking front wheel of ground enough to turn the tire. Do each side one at a time.
Then do rears.
Apply safety precautions as needed !!
Look, listen, feel for anything unusual.
Maybe someone can post a link to the online manual. They are year specific and economical.
Being new to you a good inspection and maintenance is in your future.
ENJOY !!

I've got a similar issue with mine. I found by jacking up the rear and rotating the wheels I would feel binding at a specific point on each wheel leading me to believe the brake pads are catching on the drum somewhere. It's on my to-do list.
