Stranded in Uwharrie. Busted Radiator. Need fix ideas.
Im stranded in the Uwharrie national forest. Jeep overheated on the way and now the radiator has a hole in it. What should I do? I put a big bottle of stop leak in. Also, all the water I'm putting in leaks back out the hole. Its a small hold. Its coming from the end of the top fin looking thing below the upper radiator hose.
I have my dad here too so we CAN fix it. Just need ideas how. Thinking about putting black pepper in it. Good idea? Bad? Please help. |
Have someone pick you up and run to the nearest parts barn. It's not worth having that crap in your block. Go get a new radiator.

But thanks for trying. |
I think he already put the stop leak in.

Coarse ground black pepper from an old country store got me home from the woods once.

does he have to start the vehicle to get the stop leak to go where it needs to?

Yeah, if you put stop leak in already, don't go mixing in other stuff now. Sounds like a recipe for trouble.
Any chance of putting anything over the leak on the outside? I'm thinking of that "cold weld" putty. Some of it is made to be applied even if the part is wet (I think it's labeled "marine"). Not sure how well it works, but your options are kinda limited here. |
I've heard of the pepper thing, but never tried it. Cruiser, you think it'd be OK to add some, even though he already has stop leak in there?

I have used pepper before and it got me home without a single problem and that was over 100 mile drive. The best thing about using the pepper it is a lot easier to flush out of the cooling system then the radiator stop leak.

well i know JB Weld has an aluminum fix n it does work just need to make sure u clean it well...ive used brake clean to clean the residue off n have applied to several different things n it works great...but one u get it home a flush of the coolant system is a must now since that stop leak will plug up everything including ur heater core...but as a fix try the aluminum jb weld it will get you home.

Didn't MacGyver use some jumper cables and a penny to weld a leaking radiator?
