Stock XJ and off-roading
I'd like to get into some off-road fun with my son and was wondering how my stock XJ would do. Kinda start small and someday maybe do some upgrades.
Thanks...
Thanks...

What kind of off roading are you wanting to do? It should handle light off road just fine. dirt/two track roads, light mud, low water crossings, etc..

your xj will do fine on easy scenic type trails. or even give more mild trails a shot but never go alone if you can help it. oh and remove your rear sway bar. trust me it will help.

you would be suprised on how well it will do. Mine was stock with the exception of the welded rear and it did great on some harder trails

stock XJ's are surprisingly capable, just get some disco's for the front, some recovery points, and maybe a skid or two and have at it. i think its much better to start wheeling a stock vehicle because that way you can really learn how it handles and what it's limits are.

My XJ was trail-ready the day I slapped a battery into it. You should be fine. I've taken mine through 2 of the 3 most difficult trails in my local area and have only been stuck one time, stuck meaning I had to use a buddy for recovery.

Thanks for all the replies. Glad to know I can do some basic wheeling before making financial investments to upgrade. And as MasterShakeXJ mentioned, it does make sense to start stock. Now to get out and buy the trail essentials...

My daughter wheels her stock XJ over mostly scenic stuff. She doesn't want to play in the rocks. We removed the rear swaybar and swapped up to 235/75-15s. And a JD yellow paintjob...
