Stock Rims Question
Have 235 75 15 tires on my stock rims. Can I put 30 9.5s on the stock rims? What are my tire options for these rims, I am looking for a good off road tire

Factory rims are 7" wide, you do not want to exceed 150% of the rim width for tire width. So the widest tire you can squeeze without problems on your factory wheels are 10.5" tires. So those 30's you mentioned would be fine. 31x10.50 would work, and for certain brands 33x10.5 wold work as well. Height does not really matter as much, as long as the Jeep can clear it, its the width that should be considered.
Now that does NOT mean you cannot go wider, they are just a ***** to mount, and easier to break the bead off road, and overall just not a good idea....
So to answer your question, 10.5" tires or smaller are your options.... As for every specific option inbetween.... thats up to you. So if you are going to put 30"x9.50 tires on them, you will be fine.

What is the recomended tire size for the lift? Thats the size I would use. If the recomended tire size states a number like 31x10.5and you want to use the metric sizes, (which you have to for Nitto) follow this link. Its a tire size conversion calculator, and it will help you narrow down just the right size tire for your new look....

I went with 30x9.50s get them put on tomorrow. I battled between keeping the 235/75s cause they are much cheaper. I thought about going 265/75s but again, they we expensive in a good all terrain. It has been a headache trying to pick the right tire for the right price. I ended up getting Big Os brand BigFoot ATs. We'll see how it goes

In order to run bigger tires you are going to have to either lift it or cut out the wheel wells, or both. I have a 4" lift on my '95 XJ, and I'm running 31/10.50-15 tires. There is about 1-1/2" of clearance between the shoulder of the tire and the sway bar ends with the wheel hard over. I still get a little rub sometimes. I'd like to run bigger tires, but 31/10.50 is about as big as I can go on stock 15" rims. If I found bigger tires (say 32") that would fit the 15" rims, I'd probably have to put up with more frequent rubbing in a hard-over turn.
If you intend to run bigger tires for off-roading (at some point in the future) you will need to lift it first. I'd say no less than 4". I wish I had 4.5" or 5", but then I'd have to deal with changed driveshaft angles, steering geometry, etc. The highher you go, the more $$$ you will have to spend, because you have to start replacing more and more parts to accomodate the lift.
