stock gearing swap
I just bought a 96 that had a 5spd and had a 92 with the auto but it was to rusted out. so i swap drive due to 150k milage differance. im new the jeep world but from what i understand the 5spd has 3.07 gears and the auto has 3.55. i want to get the 3.55 into the 96 so . what would be the best way to do it? as far as are there seals i should get before i do the swap? do i need thread lock etc? how long would it take to do the swap? and how do i it? ....yes im a newb but theres nothing i cant do, just a lil info would be awsome before i go in blind. thanks!

He wants to confirm the gear ratios (its on the axles or you can look it up by vin), and Im pretty sure you need to use a liquid gasket.. beyond that, as long as the model years are the same.. it should swap.
BTW I hope your sticking with the manual trans.. that would be my pref.
good luck

your best bet would be to just swap the entire axles out , setting gears isnt easy and can get costly if its not done right , so i would just swap the entire deal and be done with it

Axles are in a DIFFERENTIAL. So are the Ring and Pinion and the Carrier.
You want to swap the entire differentials Right? so you can use the 3.55 gear ratio in the 96.
They are an easy swap. Just be sure to use new Ubolts on the rear. Everthing should just bolt up UNLESS you got the Chrysler 8.25 in the 96.
Then you may have to change the ebrake cables
