Default Stock or convert

Hi! I recently bought a 1997 jeep cherokee, I tought the rear axle bearings were gone so I replaced them. The weird noise is still there, so I took it to a shop and the mechanic told me the gears were worn and very sharp and said the rear diff gears along with the ring & pinion should be replaced.....

So my question is what should I do?? Stay with stock with Chrysler 8.25 29 spline 3.07 ratio or change to different ratio, or get some kind of locker?

What would be my best option ? Only want to do this once, and preferably low cost....

Not sure what my front diff is but I guess if I change the rear I would have to change the front ring and pinion aswell...

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions....

I'd check junkyards for a new 8.25 29 slpine. Are you going to go to bigger tires and when, what size??? If you change gears in the rear you have to do the front. I'd do at least a lunchbox Locker, instead of the spiders, Won't cost that much more.

I would just fix it as is unless your gona go to 33's or bigger tires in the near future. If you are going to bigger tires then change gears.

Ya I'm gonna price out all the parts I need, Ring & pinion, spider, and other stuff, pretty much the whole diff..... that's why I was debating on the options....

Thanks again....
